Kicking Fat’s Butt!

I’ve never been the type to WANT to exercise… But I’ve changed. And guess what? I’m loving it!

After hubby left for work today, I got up and out of bed and took Tucker and Charlie for a 1.55 mile walk around the neighborhood. I drank my protein shake and ate a piece of gluten free toast with 1 tablespoon of natural peanut butter and relaxed for an hour or so… Until I started to get the itch to get up and move.. So I did!

I turned up my “Happy” Station on Pandora and rocked it out up and down the stairs and all around my living room. I found that I burn more calories in half the time doing this than I do walking, so I see a lot more of this in my future :). It’s just past lunch time and I still have over 900 calories left in my calorie allotment for today.

Keep it healthy, my friends!

We’re Really Doing It This Time!

Hubby and I went for a 3 mile walk last night around our neighborhood. We took our dogs with us for the first mile and a half, and because their short dachshund legs couldn’t handle much more, we dropped them off at home and walked the last half without them. Upon returning home, we each enjoyed a EAS vanilla protein shake and registered for our first 5K walk for later in the year.

We discussed the changes we’ve made in the last month. We eat a lot healthier, and even if we eat fast food, we make good choices. My favorite fast food right now is Smash Burger’s Avocado Club SmashChicken without bacon or a bun. It’s only 370 calories, so it fits in well with my restriction of 1,450 calories a day. What you have to watch out for are the fries! There are 400+ calories in one serving of SmashFries – that’s a huge no-no!

I’m down only one pound in the last two weeks, but feel so much better! I’m clear-headed, my shirts fit better, and my headaches are slowly going away. In the last two weeks I’ve only taken two Advils. That’s HUGE! I usually take 4-6 Advils A DAY!

I plan on walking 1-2 miles every afternoon after coming home from work, and another 1.5-2 miles with Hubby when he comes home from work :).

Summer, I’m going to use you to my advantage! Wahoo to the perks of being a teacher :)!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Hubby and I have traveled several places together from Houston:
Austin
Las Vegas (twice)
Denver
San Jose, San Francisco, Sausalito, and Monterrey (one trip)
And our absolute favorite…Maui, Hawaii!

And now we are at it again.
We had planned to travel to the Bahamas this summer, but the hotel we really wanted to stay at booked up. Instead, we’ll now be going to Cancun, Mexico at the end of July! We are both so excited!!

What’s even better is that we booked our trip on my birthday :).
HELLO 26!

Now that the trip is booked, all we have to worry about are our passports. We have an appointment with our regional passport agency next week to expedite them. Do you think we’ll have them in time? We bought insurance on our travel package – just in case!

This is Hubby’s first time out of the states and our first time traveling outside the US together :).

Suggestions and recommendations of sites to see, places to eat, and things to do would be greatly appreciated!

What do you know about gluten?

Not much?
Me neither.

What I DO know is that it significantly affects my body in a negative way. I know scientists say there’s no such thing as gluten sensitivity aside from Celiac Disease, but I refuse to believe that.

Gluten causes bloating, headaches, fatigue, asthma symptoms, adrenal and pituitary issues, as well as infertility. While I would like to think my infertility issues could be solved by just changing my diet, I’m more level-headed and rational than that. A girl can dream, right?

Eating gluten free is much simpler than people think. You can eat practically whatever you want and when you want.. Just have to think before you make your selections :).

I’ve drastically reduced my consumption of foods with gluten in the last two weeks, and my headaches have minimized dramatically. Sometimes, I would have a headache for weeks at a time, but I have been Advil free for a whole week… That was until I drank one beer to celebrate my birthday with my friends on Saturday. Believe it or not, that one beer has caused me to have a headache for the past two days! I’m kicking myself for it, because I’m not much of a drinker to begin with anyway!

I’ve been on a 1,450 calorie diet and have started exercising as well. Apps like MyFitnessPal and MapMyFitness help keep me on track – I highly recommend them!

I’ve absolutely been loving gluten free bread with natural peanut butter and honey with a tall glass of almond milk. Mmm… Makes me hungry just thinking about it.

I have a feeling this blog is going to start taking a change in direction, and I’m okay with that.

Why do people keep asking?

I visited an old co-worker at L’Occitane a few weeks ago while I was at the mall. I haven’t worked there since college, so a lot has happened since I left. I’ve gotten married and purchased a home, so naturally the thing that comes next is a baby. When I got there, we went through the motions. We hugged, exchanged “Hello”s and “How are you?”s and then out popped “So no babies yet?” As open as I am about our journey.. I don’t feel like explaining myself every time I see someone. I’ve told her before that we’re trying and not succeeding. I told her that we’re looking into adoption and she replied with, “Oh, girl! Why?” like it would be such a horrible thing.

Fast forward to today – I dropped my car off to be serviced and had to be shuttled home. First off, the driver made me incredibly uncomfortable and asked me about my height multiple times. The first thing he said to me when I got in the car was, “Ooh girl, how tall are you?” (I’m 5’8″ – nothing abnormal..) He proceeded to ask me if I play sports and blablabla. He then continued the awkwardness by asking if I’m married and telling me all about his crazy wife who he left 3 months ago. To top off the uncomfortable conversation, he asked of we have kids. Ugh. Not going to explain it to a total stranger who makes me uncomfortable.

Why does this question have to be asked? If someone has kids and wants to talk about them. It’s none of anyone’s business!

On a positive note, we are looking into a vacation to The Bahamas! Hoping to travel next month :)!

On the go? You’ve got to have this!

Thanks to Influenster, I received the Venus® Snap with Embrace VoxBox! The Venus Snap is a small razor packed into a durable plastic to-go carrier. It’s small enough to throw into your purse (or clutch!) for on the go shaving. Mine now lives inside my overnight bag, so it goes everywhere I go. At only a few inches long, it’s the perfect fit for any bag of any size. although it’s small, it’s totally reusable! The razor head can be replaced with Venus Embrace cartridges, although, the carrying case does not have a place to hold extra cartridges (bummer, I know! 😢). The razor also has a moisturizing strip for extra shaving ease! Go out and grab one of these for your overnight back ASAP! Your legs will thank me 😉.
